Aren't you tired?Yes YOU!Aren't you tired of putting the blame of every mosquito bite & skin itch on Nigeria? Every early or late rain, sunshine, harmattan, headache, runny nose, diarrhea.etc. on this "being" who can do nothing to defend itself. Have you ever paused even for a moment to wonder who or what is even this "Nigeria"?Well let me kindly remind you-Nigeria just like air,is an abstract object. You can't see it or point a finger at it and that's because, accept it or not, it is YOU and I who make up Nigeria.Yes!We are Nigeria.Year after year,on the 1st of October, the duty of most Nigerians is to sit down and begin to enumerate the problems in Nigeria.Have you ever asked yourself if Nigeria has made any progress so far? No!!!All we keep ourselves busy doing is finding excuses why we shouldn't be grateful for how far we have come as a nation.
Believe it or not,if Nigeria is not doing well today,it is because YOU & I at the grass root level are doing nothing to make it better-except of course passing the baton of blame from person to person.
Tell me why Nigeria will get better when all that students desire is to pass exams without studying for them?Government workers evade work and expect payment, worse still manipulate data to remain in their work position past retirement age.We who so much parade our sanctimoniousness(regardless of our religious beliefs) have refused to see the need to pray for our nation.People in power are more concerned with looting funds.Youths are more interested in making "fast" money than working for it.Bribery & Corruption has become our mantra because it is human beings(Nigerians)not ghosts that indulge in them.
Any change we desire in Nigeria today, begins with YOU and I.Little wonder Mahatma Gandhi said "Be the change u want to see in the world".It is right to say that we look forward to a better Nigeria but it's important to know that unless we begin to do something to effect this rather than sit down and play the blame game,we may never get to the change we desire.I'm not saying that government and its policies should not be criticized(that's the duty of citizens after all); but the truth is that things will only get better when we seek solutions to our problems rather than dwell in the blame game.
We keep saying we look forward to the future but may I remind us that today is the tomorrow we talked about yesterday-today is the future we seek. The future is not a timezone that is yet to come; the future is everything that we can be but have not yet become, the future is everything that we can do but have not yet done. So let's go ahead and deliver the future. Because we can, because we must and together we will.
PS:This is a wake up call to every Nigerian who gets to read this. The saying "Change begins with you" is not just a mere saying; there is a vision behind it.We are that turning point generation, Let's help make Nigeria a better place. Happy Independence Nigeria!!!
